Advice and help on what lock to fit, in what situation, and why.
OUR SATISFACTION...IS...YOUR SATISFACTION
Our aim on this page is to give advice on what lock is needed and in what situation, this advice is given on years of experience in the locksmithing industry. We hope it helps you to pick the security required to safeguard your property.
Somewhere in your insurance policy it will ask for British Standard security to be fitted to the door of your premises and security to accessible windows.
SO..Where to start..Of course, lets start with the front door to any home.

The best place to start is with the RIM LATCH we are picking heavy duty BRITISH STANDARD rim latches, as these are what we advise our customers to fit.
Follow the arrow link to RIM LATCHES recommended.
The important part is to remember to fit security in the right place, a rim and a mortice together is not correct, the right spacing should be a third from the top for the rim and a third from the bottom of the door for the mortice.
IF POSSIBLE DO NOT FIT INTO A MORTICE AND TENON
NORTH LONDON LOCKSMITHS aim is to make your home as secure as possible, we have shown you rim latches that we suggest for your front door or flat door, we will now concentrate on the MORTICE SECURITY
Again there is a wide variety of security, here are the main one's we would recommend.
Follow this link to the advice we give for security to front doors.

A common occurrence is the weakness of the back door; your home may be secure at the front with good security..BUT..what about securing the rear door of your home.
The back door of most houses is secluded and private, because of the garden, there may be hedges or high walls an ideal situation to force a door, without being seen.
The home security advice we give here is:-
Always fit a good sash mortice centrally but not into a mortise and tenon, and locking bolts top and bottom of the door, if the door is outward opening fit a pair of hinge bolts, these stop the door being taken off from the hinge side, by driving the hinge pins out.
If you have a pair of rebated French doors to the garden, fit a good sash mortice with a rebate pack and at least
locking bolts to the final closing leaf of the doors or even better still to the first closing leaf of the doors as well.
Do not make it easy for the common burglar, confuse him in order that he will try an easier house to rob.
FIT THE RIGHT SECURITY
This link will take you to the locks we recommend for your back door. We cannot show them all but it will give you an idea. If you would like us to give you a free estimate on your security, please phone the number below.

How about COMMUNAL DOORS, a communal door is classified as a shared entrance door that leads to a flat etc. This is a grey area. Most insurance companies will ask for a 5 lever mortice deadlock to be fitted..BUT..WHAT IF YOU HAVE A FIRE!!! OR YOU HAVE COME OUT OF YOUR FLAT AND FORGOT YOUR KEY!!! AND THE FRONT DOOR IS LOCKED?
Let us try and help with this situation by suggesting the security we would recommend.
