Our aim is to give home security advice and prevent the heartache caused by burglary.

OUR SATISFACTION..IS..YOUR SATISFACTION

Like all things home security advice is stating the obvious facts..BUT.. due to haste or forgetfulness, in a moment can leave the path open to a casual unwanted visitor entering your home and stealing your valued possessions.

For instance how many times have you left home without locking the mortise lock? Maybe you have gone to the shops 5 minutes away or the mobile phone has gone just as you were leaving the house and you absently forget to lock the bottom lock. These are ideal situations for a thief to slip your simple latch and enter your home.

Bits to help you secure your home.

* LOCKS

* GOOD LOCKS TO FIT

* NEED A LOCKSMITH

FIRST RULE IS TO FIT LOCKS THAT ARE SUITABLE FOR THE APPLICATION THEY ARE APPLIED FOR

SECOND RULE IS TO ALWAYS DOUBLE LOCK YOUR FRONT DOOR. MAKE IT HARD FOR A CASUAL ENTRY.

These are the easy home security advice parts.

If you would like to know more about what locks we recommend, please follow this link to lock page, then return to home security advice.

A common occurrence is the weakness of the back door; your home may be secure at the front with good locks..BUT..what about securing the rear door of your home.

The back door of most houses is secluded and private, because of the garden, there may be hedges or high walls an ideal situation to force a door, without being seen.

The home security advice we give here is:-

Always fit a good sash lock central but not into a mortise and tenon, and locking bolts top and bottom of the door, if the door is outward opening fit a pair of hinge bolts, these stop the door being taken off from the hinge side, by driving the hinge pins out.

If you have a pair of rebated French doors to the garden, fit a good sash lock with a rebate pack and at least locking locking bolts to the final closing leaf of the doors or even better still to the first closing leaf of the doors as well.

If you have a garden shed or there are ladders, in the garden area, make sure that they are locked up and secure. Why give tools to the burglar to gain entry to your property. The common sense home security advice.

THE IDEA IS TO STOP THE THIEF FROM ENTERING THE HOUSE

To all accessible windows fit key operated locks, if you cannot find key operated window locks for the particular operation of your window, find locks that are not key operated.

Do nor forget you are trying to stop the thief getting in not getting out; therefore a good lock without a key is better than no lock. For instance if it is a window that you are not going to open, a high fanlight window or a window that you cannot access from the inside, screw it up and fill the hole with filler.

Another common occurence is when you leave keys, to a car or even to your house, in the hallway on view on a side table, an ideal oppotunity for the casual thief is to rod through the letter box and pick them up, the amount of times our company has had to go out and change locks to homes because the thief has let themself in through the front door by using this method, evem when the householder is in bed. And of course their pride and joy the car has been taken also.

A simple solution to this, apart from leaving keys on view in the first place is to fit a letter box cowl, this prevents putting a rod through the letter box.

Please take note of all the home security advice that we give it is cheap and free and we do it to help you our customer.

If you are looking after a neighbour’s keys or they are looking after yours NEVER put tags on them with the address they belong too, if your home does get broken into, then the thief has your neighbour’s keys also.
An obvious reminder is if you lose your keys or move into a new house ALWAYS change at least one of the security locks to your front door. Countless times over the years we have heard the story of no signs of entry to a house that has been robbed, but on digging deeper the keys were left in the door or the handbag was stolen with the front door keys or a previous tenant has returned and gained entry with their key that was not handed in.
These are just a few tips in our home security advice page to help you keep your home secure, obviously there is no guarentee that your home will not be broken into..BUT please make it harder for the thief and protect your home.

We do hope that any advice which NORTH LONDON LOCKSMITHS have given you for your HOME SECURITY will prevent you from being burgled.
