Our recommendation is that you have good Window Locks Fitted to all your windows. It is also a good practise to have restrictor locks fitted when there are young children in the house, not only for security for ventilation, but also to prevent the window from opening to wide, especially for safety if you have young children, these locks such as the Jackloc, prevent the window from opening to far.

Depending on the windows you have, whether wooden, metal or UPVC, make sure the correct locks are fitted.

If you have sash windows fit stops on them, these prevent the window opening, with the lower stops, but will sill give ventilation on the higher stops we would say about a 5" gap.
